Granary Wharf is sometimes overlooked as a place to go for drinks however, being a stone’s throw from the station, it is one of Leeds’ best kept secrets.
We first went to Double Tree because my brother and his girlfriend where staying at the hotel whilst visiting us in Leeds. It must have been good as they have stayed there on several occasions since.
Other Half and I love nothing more than popping up to the SkyLounge at the end of the night, not only is it one of the easiest places for us to get a taxi home from, the service is good and their range of spirits makes it the perfect place for a night cap.
I was invited to the SkyLounge as they were launching their brand new summer cocktail menu, situated on the top of the hotel, the large windows and balcony offers guests breathtaking views of the city.
As well as some pretty spectacular cocktails (we will get onto these) the bar has changed its food offer to suit guests looking for a quick bite. This move also helps to complement the food that’s offered at City Cafe, the restaurant on the ground floor.
Light bites are served on large platters that are perfect for sharing, whilst at the event I was able to sample some of the food and absolutely loved the sliders, perfect bite-sized morsels which were a perfect accompaniment to my cocktails.
I instantly could see how this concept would work on a night out with friends. I am sure we all have been in the situation when popping out for ‘one quick drink’ turns into a few, before you know it everyone is feeling a little peckish.
Now to the cocktails, I do like pretty traditional ones but am always up for trying something different and a bit creative.
For traditional tastes (like myself) there are the ‘Revisited’ cocktails, a range of old and contemporary classics from around the world. I tried the Breakfast Martini which was really refreshing, the marmalade toast on the side was the perfect accompaniment.
There was also a range of new signature cocktails:
On Thursday guests are treated to a selection of live entertainment, on this occasion Alex and Phil, an acoustic and vocal duo were playing.
A trip to the SkyLounge is a must, with beautiful views of the city, interesting drinks and food to share.
