Olympic Food Challenge no 13 San Marino- Torta Tre Monti


San Marino, is an enclaved microstate surrounded by Italy, situated on the Italian Peninsula on the north-eastern side of the Apennine Mountains.

Its size is just over 61 km2 (24 sq mi) with an estimated population of over 30,000. Its capital is the City of San Marino.

San Marino has the smallest population of all the members of the Council of Europe.

San Marino was one of the first countries I researched for the Olympic Food challenge.

I found that the country was best known dessert was the Torta Tre Monti -Cake of the Three Mountains. The cake is created by the layering of chocolate covered wafers.

Try as I might, (and I did try, I even went to the library), I could not find a recipe for this cake anywhere.

The lovely guys at Salvos sent me an email which contained a video of the making of this dessert.

As the main basis for the cake is the wafer I thought that instead of buying them I would make them from scratch. Using a made waffle mix I made thin pancakes and dried them out in the oven.

These where then covered in chocolate and dusted with coca. It tasted delicious, but far too chocolaty for me. I much prefer my savouries.
