Six can now dine with me- A fond farewell to our table (September 2008- May 2012)

This week, we have took our first steps into the world of adult dining by buying our first dining table, complete with six matching chairs.

So, I thought it would be a fitting to write a post to say goodbye to our table, it has served us (geddit ?) well.

As we are in the process of re-decorating our flat you could say the writing had been on the (newly decorated with a feature) wall for our four legged somewhat wonky friend.

Growing up all meals were served at the table, dinners on the weekend included extended family coming round and eating with us. We would eat rice, peas, chicken and cauliflower or macaroni cheese served up in huge bowls.

The best part of the meal was the interaction we had with each other, whether we were talking about what was happening at school or the latest episode of Eastenders.

There is nothing I love more than cooking and having friends round, the only issue has been that we could only seat another two guests, without having to spill over onto our sofas (and that was pushing it).

When you serve food, the presentation is a large part of the enjoyment of the meal; now I’m not saying that having a large table will mean that I start putting on heston-esque theatricals. I just want my guests to be able to see each other from across the table and all share in the same conversation.

This is hard to do when you’re so spread out and just reminds me of my student days which, are very much in my past.

We do, however have a slight issue. I am not the best at dealing with flat pack and this table isn’t going to put its self up. Think there might be a call going into the future in-laws as we have friends coming round next week.
