Kirkstall deli market

You know that spring is coming when Kirkstall Deli market opens up for the year. The market is set in the cloisters of the 12th century Kirkstall Abbey and runs over the whole weekend.

On the Saturday it’s more food orientated with a good mix of street food and some of the best produce Yorkshire has to offer. On Sunday there are a variety of  jewellery, fashion and crafts stalls as well as the produce ones. I have not been on a Sunday yet but I am sure I will at some point.

The market is also just down the road from my gym so there is the added incentive to do an early workout so that I don’t feel too guilty if I pig out at the market afterwards.

As we got to the market at lunchtime we filled up before having a look at the stalls. My other half went to visit El Kantina who serve mexican and southern street food. He was impressed with their pulled pork nachos, there was just the right amount of cheese and the mustard sauce really complemented the pork.

I went for my old favorite Fish& and their mixed fish tapas and chips, just as good as usual and it was nice to try out some of the other batters.

For our afternoon treat we went to the Yummy Yank for chocolate brownie  and a chocolate bar cake for the other half.

The chocolate bar cake with it’s Oreo chocolate base was moorish. I must confess  I did end up eating most of it and had to buy him another one to compensate. This leads me to my recommendation to make sure you buy everything in pairs. Also, the brownie is particularly good warmed up with a nice cup of coffee.

The Chilli Devil was another stall we visited and picked up some chipotle, ancho and jalapeños dried chillies. We will be using  in the coming weeks, watch this space.
