Local Sauce Gets National Critics Hot Under The Collar

Local sauce and condiment business The Really Nice Food Company is today (29th July) celebrating success as one of their best selling sauces, has been awarded a gold star at the Great Taste awards 2016.

The company’s Mango Hot Sauce was selected out of 10,000 products submitted by producers this year to gain a coveted gold star.

Recognised as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers alike, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging. Whether it is bread, honey, salami or cereal being judged, all products are removed from their wrapper, jar, box or bottle before being tasted. The judges then savour, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of a 1-, 2- or 3-star award.

The judges commented on the sauces’ vivid colour, fruity notes on the front end and that the heat from the chilli was nicely warming.

Mango Hot Sauce is inspired by the Caribbean island of St.Kitts and is the hottest made by the Leeds based company.

The Sauce contains Scotch Bonnet chillies and a combination of three other chillies which, has been wowing customers to date, ensuring that any mundane dish is a spicy hit.

Owner and producer Rebecca Benn said: “This is the first time I have ever entered any of my sauces for an award so to get a gold star, first time is like a dream come true.

“The Mango Hot Sauce is one of my particular favourites as I made the first ever batch as favours at my wedding.

“It was only after receiving so much positive feedback from it, I decided to start The Really Nice Food Company.

“It’s been going for a little over a year and in this time I have sold my sauces at food festivals, markets and a selection of independent shops.

“I’m hoping that this award will help me to bring my sauce to a wider audience.”

The Really Nice Food Company’s products are all handmade by Rebecca who, sources all the fresh ingredients from supplier Neil’s Fruit and Vegetables, based at Kirkgate Market.
