M is for Mexico

Yes, well a trip to Mexico would be ideal but a cheaper alternative would be to get the new book from Thomasina Miles. I went to a supper club, Dine at the Manor that was based on this book and now it’s well and truly on my list for this year.

Simon Rogan’s restaurant Fera at Claridge’s was one of my most enjoyable restaurants visits this year. For this reason, it’s at the top of my list for anyone that’s looking to buy a foodie an extra special Christmas treat.

Fera is the perfect mix of glorious art deco and nature. The season and availability of ingredients, (many of which are grown on Simon’s farm in the Lake District) are the driving forces behind the dishes on the menu.

The Food Lover’s A to Z Guide Of Christmas Presents (Part One)

Almost everyone knows someone who is passionate about food and it seems like they should be the easiest people to buy for. They aren’t.

If you have a foodie in your life chances are you’re finding it hard to pick food related presents this year.

Hopefully, my A to Z list will give you some tips, I have broken the list into four parts so look out for these posts on the run up to Christmas.

A is for AeroPress

If your food-loving friend loves coffee, this present is perfect for them, I use mine everyday at work and would be lost without it.

The AeroPress uses air pressure so that you get a perfect cup of coffee every time. I must admit when I first got mine, I was a little dubious but since using it I have not looked back.

It’s less mess that a cafetiere.

B is for Blowtorch

If the foodie in your life has not got one of these already,  this will win you some serious brownie points (see what I did there lol). Uneven Creme Brûlée and underset Baked Alaska will be a thing of the past.

C is for Making your own Chocolate bar from scratch

Hotel Chocolat is known for gorgeous Hot Chocolate, their on site conch machine and melt in the mouth Chocolate. However, did you know they also have a School of Chocolate at their Leeds site where you can come along and learn to make a bar from scratch?

On the Bean to Bar experience you will be guided  though each element of making your very own bar. From how to roast and conch cocoa, temper chocolate and most importantly how to eat your bar!

Afterwards why not sample their cocktails, pictured below are my favourite three.

D is for Becoming a Dim Sum master

Since our trip to Hong Kong I have had a love affair with Dim Sum.  I have loved the idea of getting to grips with how to make more dishes.

The School of Wok offers several different classes on the subject, like their introduction to Dim Sum .

E is for Estbek

There is nothing I love more than escaping to the coast, that’s one of the perks of living in Leeds, you are only a couple of hours away from the sea.

Although we love to go to Whitby, Sandsend is a real find. Estbek is the perfect place to get away, not only for the views but for the really nice food.
